Research
The objectives of ACERC are 1) to develop fundamental combustion engineering knowledge and technology; 2) to educate students at all levels who are capable of addressing critical, national energy issues; and 3) to transfer developed combustion technology to industry to help solve crucial combustion problems
85% of the world’s energy comes from burning fossil fuels. ACERC strives to discover how to make burning fuels more efficient, more sustainable, and more environmentally friendly.
ACERC was founded in 1986 by the National Science Foundation, under the direction of Dr. L. Douglas Smoot. ACERC was at first a joint operation between Brigham Young University and the University of Utah.
-In 2004, the University of Utah formed a separate research center known today as ICSE. Since the separation, ACERC and ICSE have maintained close relations.
Throughout the years, ACERC has produced numerous publications and computer software programs. Research students at ACERC continue to be placed in industries.
